ArcticOcean.com exists to make the least-visited ocean on Earth easier to plan for. It is an independent travel portal: twelve destination guides to the places from which travellers actually reach the Arctic Ocean and its seas, and a set of region-wide pages that explain how the pieces fit together.
What we cover
- Twelve destinations, from Svalbard and Arctic Norway to Greenland, North Iceland, Arctic Canada, Alaska and the North Pole, each with pages for tours and tickets, things to see, getting there, practical advice and the best time to go.
- Region-wide planning: itineraries, gateways and flights, expedition cruises versus land-based trips, seasons, midnight sun and northern lights.
- Background on the ocean itself and on wildlife and how to watch it responsibly.
- Where to stay in each gateway.
- Which bookable tours are worth your money — and, just as plainly, where nothing can be booked online at all.
How we research
Facts are checked against official sources such as the Governor of Svalbard, national park and road authorities, transport operators, tourist boards and the attractions themselves, and reviewed regularly. Tour prices, ratings and review counts come from GetYourGuide. Where something changes often — ice conditions, flight schedules, access rules, fees — we say so and tell you where to check, rather than pretend to a precision that does not exist.
Several Arctic destinations have little or no inventory on the big booking platforms. Where that is the case we say so, point to real tours in the gateway towns instead, and never invent products. For the Russian Arctic we describe the region and the current travel advisories but do not promote bookings.
