Season by season
Winter (November–March). Polar night from mid-November to late January, then fast-returning light. Snow, wind and convoy driving, few visitors, and northern lights on clear nights.
Spring (April–mid-May). Long days and lingering snow. Seabirds return to Gjesværstappan and the reindeer arrive from the interior. Many summer services have not yet started.
Summer (mid-May–August). Midnight sun until the end of July, all roads and boat trips open, and daily cruise-ship calls. Temperatures are cool — often 8–12°C — and fog is common.
Autumn (September–October). Tundra in red and gold, the first aurora, storms from the Barents Sea and very few people. Services wind down quickly.
